31 get lateral entry in government departments from private sector

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Friday said that in continuation of its policy of involving talent from the private sector in governance, the government has selected 31 experts as joint secretaries, directors and deputy secretaries in central government departments. Is.

The selected people include three joint secretaries, 19 directors and nine deputy secretaries.

Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh took to Twitter to call it a big step to rope in the right talent for the right role.

“As a major step to hire the right talent for the right role, DoPT has recruited 31 lateral entry recruitments in various Ministries/Departments of the Government of India as Joint Secretary/Director/Deputy Secretary after due selection process by UPSC. Announced,” he posted. on Twitter.

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on December 14, 2020 and February 12, 2021 had requested UPSC to select suitable people to join the government at the level of Joint Secretary, Director or Deputy Secretary in various ministries and departments. . on contract or deputation basis.

UPSC had started the online recruitment application for Joint Secretary and Director level posts on 6 February this year and for Deputy Secretary level posts on 20 March.

The government received 295 applications for joint secretary level posts, 1,247 applications for director level posts and 489 applications for deputy secretary level posts.

Out of these, 231 candidates were shortlisted for the interview, which was conducted from September 27 to October 8. UPSC eventually recommended 31 candidates for appointment as Joint Secretary, Director and Deputy Secretary.

The three joint secretaries will join the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

There will also be 19 directors from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Law and Justice, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Food and Public Distribution, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Health and Family. Ministry of Welfare, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

Nine Deputy Secretaries have been selected in the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, Ministry of Steel, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Ministry of Mines, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises. Ministry and Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

The Personnel Ministry, in June 2018, had invited applications for 10 posts of Joint Secretary-rank through lateral entry mode – i.e. appointment of private sector specialists in the government – ​​for the first time.
