Another disciplinary action pending against Dr Kafeel for various incidents: UP govt to HC

LUCKNOW : In a pending case relating to suspension of Dr. Kafeel Ahmed Khan, a pediatrician of BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur, the state government informed the Allahabad High Court that another independent disciplinary proceeding is underway against the doctor in connection with various incidents. . The first occurred during the period of suspension when he was attached to the Office of the Director, Medical Health.

As a result of the above disciplinary proceedings, a separate suspension order was passed therein.

Appearing in the High Court on Wednesday, Additional Advocate General (AAG), Manish Goel claimed that the investigation is not over yet and the order of suspension passed therein is on.

Taking these submissions of the AAG on record, Justice Yashwant Verma directed the State Government to issue one more suspension order as well as two other necessary facts in respect of the earlier order of suspension dated August 22, 2017 by way of an affidavit. Asked to bring on record within a week.

Further, the AAG, in response to the court’s earlier order, apprised the court that as per the earlier order of suspension dated August 22, 2017, Dr. Kafeel was attached to the office of the Director, Medical Education.

Dr Kafeel was suspended from service on August 22, 2017 after nearly 60 infants died due to lack of oxygen at the BRD Medical College Hospital. Thereafter, he was separately suspended in connection with various incidents that took place in that office.

The court has fixed August 31, 2021 as the next date of hearing in the matter.
