Ashok Gehlot, Sachin Pilot inside a helicopter. Congress unity photo op?

Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot were campaigning for the bypolls to two seats this month.

Congress general secretary in-charge of Rajasthan Ajay Maken today posted a picture of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his internal rival Sachin Pilot as senior Congress leaders left for an election rally for the bypolls to the two seats. Month.

In the picture Mr Maken is sitting inside a helicopter and Mr Gehlot is sitting in front of him. On the other hand, Sachin Pilot and party’s state president Govind Singh Dotasara are seen sitting.

“Off for the by-elections,” Mr Maken wrote in Hindi, tagging the three leaders.

The picture is seen by many as the party’s attempt to present a united face to the state leadership, barely a week after Mr Gehlot’s scathing political message to opponents where he said, “I am here to stay, I am here.” Not going anywhere. Next 15 to 20 years. Some people might not like it but it can’t be helped”.

last month, Sachin Pilot meeting Along with Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra – days after the change of leadership in Punjab, the Congress-ruled state – had fueled speculation of plans for a similar exercise in the state. Mr. Pilot’s meeting with the Gandhi family was his second meeting in less than a week.

A few days later, Mr Gehlot – in his first public appearance after recovering from angioplasty – put an end to any speculation of a change of leadership in Rajasthan.

He said, “For 15-20 years, nothing will happen to me. Now if you want to be sad, then be sad, it is not in my hands. Nothing will happen to me.” Elected to power in the next assembly elections, but he himself will remain so for the next 15-20 years.

Ashok Gehlot The cabinet has been under pressure for some time to go in for an expansion to accommodate Mr Pilot’s loyalists. So far the chief minister has resisted making changes that his party’s leadership had promised to Mr Pilot, who was deputy chief minister until June last year, when he was forced to resign.

Mr Gehlot – already serving as chief minister twice till 2018 – became chief minister again after the Congress won the assembly elections that year. But it was not an easy decision for the party as Mr Pilot had his eyes on the top post as well. The Youth Congress leader is credited with rebuilding the party after the party’s defeat in the 2013 state elections.

Last year, Mr Pilot, backed by 18 Congress MLAs, ended a month-long rebellion against Mr Gehlot after a meeting with the Gandhi family, who apparently assured him that his grievances would be heard by a three-member committee. Including Priyanka Gandhi.
