BEST claims 8 buses vandalized in Mumbai during Maharashtra bandh, demand for police protection

Mumbai: Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) on Monday said eight of its buses were vandalized in different areas of Mumbai between midnight and 8 am today. BEST further alleged that the buses were Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) vandalized today amid Maharashtra bandh In protest against the Lakhimpur Kheri incident in which eight people, including four farmers, lost their lives.

BEST has sought police protection for this.

According to Mumbai Police, security has been deployed at strategic points with 3 companies of SRPF, 500 home guards and 700 personnel from local arms units.

in between, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has opposed the ‘Maharashtra Bandh’ Declared by MVA.

Earlier on 6 October, the Maharashtra State Cabinet had passed a resolution to condole the unfortunate death of farmers in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident in Uttar Pradesh. Cabinet ministers also observed silence for two minutes and paid tribute to the deceased farmers. The proposal was moved by Water Resources Minister Jayant Patil, which was supported by Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat and Industries Minister and senior Shiv Sena leader Subhash Desai.

MVA is an alliance of NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena. Patil said the three parties and their allies would take part in the bandh.
