Raipur: Amid speculations of possible changes in Congress-ruled Chhattisgarh, state Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu said on Sunday that Bhupesh Baghel would continue to be the chief minister.
Notably, Sahu was also one of the contenders for the post of CM after the Congress came to power in Chhattisgarh in December 2018.
“We believe that those who become chief ministers continue to hold this position.
According to the circumstances, sometimes they shift in just two-four months and sometimes for 15-20 years.
Till now Bhupesh Baghel is the chief minister and he will continue (on the post).”
Speculation began to intensify after Baghel completed two-and-a-half years as chief minister in June 2021.
Congress leader TS Singh Deo’s loyalists had claimed that the party high command had agreed to a rotational chief ministership between Bhupesh Baghel and Singhdeo in 2018.
Chhattisgarh Congress in-charge PL Punia had denied that there was any such agreement when the BJP came to power in 2018 by overthrowing it.
The Congress leadership had called both Baghel and Singh Deo to Delhi in August to resolve the dispute.
Baghel appears to have won when he told reporters on his return that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had agreed to visit the state ‘at his invitation’, and that those who talked about rotating the post of CM They were promoting political instability.
Singh Deo had said that the decision regarding change of leadership rests with the party high command.
Several Congress MLAs, considered close to Baghel, have visited Delhi several times in the last two months, apparently to express solidarity with the CM.
