Everyday physical training during lockdown helped me win the national championship: Manika Batra

Manika Batra recently won the National Table Tennis Championship in Panchkula last week and now looks forward to the World Qualification tournament in Doon next month.

Table tennis superstar Manika Batra also credited her physical training during the lockdown as the major reason behind her success at the 82nd Senior National Championships, which she won last week.

Manika defeated Reeth Rishia in the women’s singles final to win the tournament in Panchkula.

“I’m really happy to win the National Championship. The lockdown was really tough for all the athletes.

“For me, I trained every day and did my physical training. I focused a lot on my physical training and I saw all the results in the National Championship.”

The 25-year-old moved directly to Pune after becoming the national champion and is currently busy training for the World Qualification tournament which will be held in Doha from 14 March.

“I was really surprised, I was really confident, which I didn’t expect because I was playing after a long time. I saw many players playing their best game, so the competition from my opponents was really good.”

Manika said, “I got the world qualification in Doha after this, because I have a lot of practice in it. I am looking forward to it even further.”
