With the arrest of four people, Hathras police of western Uttar Pradesh on Thursday claimed to have busted an inter-district gang of vehicle thieves and recovered four dozen two-wheelers from them.
Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal said the recovered vehicles, including motorcycles and scooters, were stolen from Agra, Mathura, Gautam Buddh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, Hathras and Aligarh and Gurgaon in Haryana.
“During the police investigation, the accused were apprehended in Sadabad area. They recovered 48 two-wheelers of the robbery. Some of the vehicles were broken into by the gang,” he said.
The official said the gang would pick up vehicles from the parking areas of hospitals, banks and other busy locations, and would target two-wheelers that had old locks.
“The accused, during initial interrogation with the police, said that they would sell the stolen vehicles at lower rates in some districts, while selling their parts separately to others,” he said.
Mr. Jaiswal said that the police have also recovered some illegal weapons along with some illegal weapons from the accused.
Police said the identities of the arrested were Netrapal Singh, Manoj Kumar – from Mathura – and Manish Chaudhary, Saurabh Kumar – both residents of Hathras.
He said that an FIR has been lodged against the accused at Sadabad Police Station and further proceedings are on.
