Center didn’t allow me to attend Rome Global Peace Meet out of ‘jealousy’: Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said the Center has not allowed her presence at a global peace meeting in Rome where she was the only invitee from the country “out of jealousy”.

An official of the Secretariat said that the Ministry of External Affairs, in a one-line release, said that this program is not in line with the (attendance) level of the Chief Minister.

The Trinamool Congress supremo said at an election meeting in Bhabnipur, where she is contesting the September 30 by-election, she was invited to Rome in the first week of October to attend a global peace meeting in which the Pope, various other Religious heads of countries, dignitaries are expected to attend, where she would have been the only Indian and “the only Hindu woman”.

However, she claimed that “the envious BJP did not allow this, which only lowered the respect for India in the outside world”.

Banerjee compared the central government’s disapproval of her visit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US “with special permission”, despite the World Health Organization not approving the vaccine with which the PM was vaccinated. Was.

He also hit out at the BJP government for the death of two protesters in police firing during the eviction drive against the people who had allegedly settled on the government in the pass.

He said, “In Assam there was inhuman atrocities in the name of eviction. There was firing and bloodshed of innocent people, but no NHRC team visited that state. NHRC teams often visit Bengal. It’s a shame.”

Alleging that there is goonda raj in BJP-ruled Assam, Tripura and Uttar Pradesh, Banerjee said that Trinamool Congress delegations are stopped, harassed and attacked in those states.

“We don’t say anything about those BJP leaders who keep commuting and spreading lies in West Bengal because free movement is everyone’s democratic right,” he said.

Banerjee flagged the floating of bodies of alleged COVID-19 victims in the Ganga as a failure of the UP government and selectively deleting the names of tens of millions of people in the exercise to create a National Register of Citizens in Assam. pointed to.

The TMC supremo said, “This (deleting names in the final NRC) shows the anti-people nature of the BJP. On the contrary we have already said that there will be no NRC in Bengal.”

He also accused the opposition BJP of creating trouble in Bhawanipur, where he is a candidate for the bypoll.

“The BJP only indulges in ‘gundagiri’ (violent or lethargic behaviour), false propaganda. Please thwart their game plan,” Banerjee said.

Listing out the achievements of the TMC government, the Chief Minister claimed that Bengal ranks number one in the field of vaccination and education against COVID-19.

The TMC supremo said that no procession is being taken out by his party in the election campaign in Bhawanipur, as directed by the Election Commission that BJP candidate Priyanka Tibrewal is not following the norms.

He also criticized the hike in fuel prices and sale of PSUs and urged people to defeat the “anti-people and prosperous BJP”.
