Covid-19: Less than 10,000 new cases reported in Kerala; Active caseload continues to decline

Among the new positive cases in the state, Ernakulam contributed the most with 1,337 new Covid cases, followed by Thiruvananthapuram with 1,261 new cases. There has been a steady decline in the average total positivity rate (TPR) for each day since September 21. This indicates that the spread of infection may be reduced.

Last week, the Kerala government announced that it has Decided to add 7,000 deaths for the state’s Covid-19 toll amid criticism for alleged under-reporting. Apart from this, the state’s Kovid-19 death toll will increase from 26,000 to 33,000 by Saturday.

Announcing the decision, state Health Minister Veena George said 7,000 cases were not recorded in the official figures in the absence of relevant records. “If there are complaints about omissions in the list, the health department is ready to look into them,” she said.
