Jammu: Five Army personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), were martyred in a fierce encounter with terrorists during an anti-insurgency operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Monday.
A defense spokesman said the operation was launched in the early hours of a village near DKG in Surankote following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists.
He said the militants fired heavily on the search parties, injuring the JCO and four other ranks seriously. All five soldiers died. The spokesman said that the encounter with the terrorists is on and the details are awaited.
Officials said there are reports of the presence of a group of heavily armed terrorists in the Chamerer forest after they managed to sneak in from across the Line of Control (LoC).
