Five Army personnel injured in encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pooncho


Jammu: Five Army personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), were injured in an encounter between security forces and terrorists during an anti-insurgency operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Monday. A defense spokesperson gave this information.

He said the operation was launched in a village near DKG in Surankot in the early hours after receiving intelligence about the presence of terrorists.

The encounter was going on till the last news was received.

The spokesman said the hiding militants opened heavy fire on the search parties, injuring a JCO and four other ranks seriously.

He told that he has been sent to the hospital for treatment.

There are reports of the presence of a group of heavily armed terrorists in the Chamer forest, after they managed to sneak in from across the Line of Control (LoC), officials said.

He said that security forces have been sent to the area to block all the escape routes of the terrorists.
