Government approves nine judges for elevation to the Supreme Court

New Delhi:

The government has approved nine names for promotion to the Supreme Court. Names have been sent to the President to issue warrants of appointments.

The new judges will be administered the oath after the President formally approves the recommendations.

The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended nine names, including three women judges, to the government.

Justice BV Nagarathna, one of the recommended women judges, is in line to become the first Chief Justice of India, a milestone in the judicial history of the country.
