Hindustan Aeronautics has placed an order of Rs 5,375 crore with GE Aviation, USA for the supply of 99 F404-GE-IN20 engines and support services to power the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft. The contract was signed at the HAL Corporate Office, the company said in a press release.
“This is the biggest ever deal and purchase order awarded by HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics) for LCA (Light Combat Aircraft),” HAL CMD R Madhavan said. He added that the company is working closely with GE to further enhance the export potential of the LCA and also supply parts to the global supply chain of GE 404 engines.
Since it first took off in January 2001, the Tejas LCA has been powered by a single General Electric (GE) F404-IN20 engine.
“The F404 family of engines has proven itself in operation around the world and we are committed to delivering all 99 engines and support services by 2029,” said Chris Cyre, GE Aviation’s vice president.
The indigenously built Tejas aircraft is one of the best in its class fighter aircraft globally.
At 3:00 pm, Hindustan Aeronautics shares rose over 3 per cent to Rs 1,104 on the BSE, while benchmark indices were down 0.4 per cent.
