Hurricane warning in Hong Kong due to storm Lionrock in South China Sea

Hong Kong officials issued their third-highest storm signal early Saturday, shutting down transportation networks, schools and offices as Tropical Storm Leonrock lashed the northern South China Sea.

The city’s weather observatory raised its number 8 storm warning sign at 6.40 a.m. (1040 GMT) local time and said it was likely to remain in place until morning.

Lionrock coupled with strong north monsoon winds and heavy rain devastated the city on Friday, killing a female construction worker after scaffolding collapsed in the Happy Valley suburb.
