Launch of National Urban Digital Mission

A statement said that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on Tuesday launched the National Urban Digital Mission, which was aimed at creating a shared digital infrastructure for cities.

Speaking on the launch of the mission and various other digital initiatives for cities, HUDA Minister Hardeep Puri said that the ministry had to support all urban local bodies to fulfill the promise of service to all citizens. Electronics and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that cities will become smart only when digital technology is used properly.

The ministry also launched the India Urban Data Exchange, which was developed by the Smart Cities Mission and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. The open-source platform will allow data providers and users to share and access datasets about cities.
