Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said on Wednesday that MPs should respect the sovereignty of the Parliament and system of other countries. During a virtual meeting with European Parliament Speaker David Sasoli, Mr. Birla expressed his concern over any internal matter of a country over interference or statements by MPs from other countries.
“As we are among the largest democracies in the world, we must respect the sovereignty and functioning of the Allied States and endeavor to ensure that unless requested by the Parliament of that country, a legislature Issues discussed within are not discussed by other countries. ” Mr. Birla said that we should try to make comprehensive rules and procedures so that the sovereignty of the parliaments remains unchanged.
The Lok Sabha speaker also said that India believes that more and more parliamentary exchange is important to realize the full potential of India-EU relations, especially in trade and investment.
Mr Birla’s remarks came a month after 36 UK lawmakers wrote a letter to the British Foreign Secretary Dominic Rab, led by the Labor Party, to take up the issue of farmers’ protests with New Delhi.
