Kolkata:

Sources said a special vehicle carrying COVID-19 vaccine was stopped in Purba Bardhaman district of West Bengal on Wednesday due to the blockade of the national highway led by Minister of State Siddikulla Chaudhary, who was opposing the new agricultural laws.

Purba Bardhaman Superintendent of Police Bhaskar Mukhopadhyay said the insulated van carrying the vaccine was diverted five km from a village due to the blockade of the national highway connecting Kolkata and New Delhi.

However, unofficial sources claimed that the village had to cross the roads for a distance of 20 km before the vehicle was returned to the national highway.

After exiting the state government vaccine store in Kolkata, the vehicle delivered a dose of 31,500 vaccine to the Purva Bardhaman District Health Office and was going to deliver life saving drugs in Bankura and Purulia when the incident occurred.

“Minister Siddikullah Chaudhary has blocked the coronovirus vaccine today due to his political hypocrisy. Because of this, the vehicle carrying the vaccine has to be diverted. Who would be responsible if the vaccine was destroyed due to an accident or any other reason?” ” BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya said in a tweet in Hindi.

Mr. Chaudhary, Minister of State Library Services, said that he was not aware of the circulation of the vaccine van and the road had been cleared after being brought to his attention, but by that time it had already been diverted.
