IPL 2021: CSK opted to field against Delhi Capitals, MS Dhoni explains why

MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings will take on Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals in the first playoff match of the ongoing Indian Premier League in Dubai on Sunday evening. We are done with the toss, which was won by CSK, who opted to field first.

Explaining the reason behind his decision, CSK captain Dhoni said that his unit feels that the track helps the fast bowlers in the early overs and it gets less as the match progresses.

During the toss, the CSK captain said, “We will bowl. All the matches we have played so far, people felt that the fast bowlers got a little help in the beginning, it is a tough wicket, but it can be better later ”

CSK entering the competition after three consecutive losses, however, a calm Dhoni insisted that the team has analyzed its shortcomings and is looking forward to the competition. “We try to keep it simple regardless of any game. We analyze our shortcomings and that has helped us,” he said.

Capitals captain Pant said that he too would have won the toss and decided to field first. Pant, who is the youngest captain to lead the team in the IPL playoffs, also admitted that he is “a bit nervous” but believes it is part and parcel of the game.

“We are fine with the toss, but we would have bowled first. A bit nervous, but it’s part and parcel of the game. One change for us – Ripple Patel goes out, Tom Curran comes in. When you win the game, So the confidence level is high, but we will not take the match lightly.”

CSK have fielded the same playing XI as in their previous match, while Tom Curran will play his first match in the UAE. The England all-rounder has got a place in place of Ripple Patel.
