With the Indian Premier League (IPL) resuming 2021, David Hussey, chief mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has congratulated Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana for their performances for the team. Speaking to during a pre-season interview, Hussey said, “Both quality players. Both quality guys too. They both are determined to do very well for this team and themselves. Both have done well. Have tasted international cricket and I think they are going to shock the world that they are the next generation of Indian players.”

He added, “Not just for a series or two. They have been there for a decade, for a long time. If they go ahead, watch out for us in the IPL.”

Gill was not at his best during the first half of the season, scoring only 132 runs in seven matches, with a high score of 43. Despite his erratic form in IPL 2021, he has been a regular mainstay in India’s Test team. He featured in the starting XI during India’s World Test Championship (WTC) final defeat to New Zealand.

The 22-year-old had to withdraw from the tour of England during the WTC final due to a developing stress reaction on his left lower leg.

Rana, on the other hand, is currently KKR’s highest run-scorer this season with 201 runs in seven matches. He also recorded a high score of 80.


The 27-year-old was recently named in India’s T20I and ODI squad for the tour of Sri Lanka, which was captained by Shikhar Dhawan. He played one ODI and two T20 Internationals.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) will resume the UAE leg of the season in Dubai on 19 September. During this, KKR They will resume their campaign on 20 September when they take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
