Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in the Eliminator of IPL 2021 in Sharjah on Monday and the stakes can be as high. Virat Kohli has been leading RCB for the last season and has a good chance of winning the trophy for his beloved franchise. Kohli and his men were bundled out by KKR for sub-100 totals, the last time both the teams played. If Kohli is asked to bat first he will have to hold fort for his team and lay a strong foundation to give the launch pad to Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers that they need to hammer in the death overs.

Former Kolkata Knight Riders captain and Kohli’s former India teammate Gautam Gambhir talks about what should be Kohli’s approach as a batsman in this knock-out match. Gambhir, speaking on ESPN Cricinfo’s show “T20 Timeout”Said that Kohli will have to act as a sheet anchor and try to bat till the 17th or 18th over. Gambhir highlighted Kohli’s ability to rotate the strike in the middle overs as an important aspect that can help RCB score big or do well in the chase.

“The stage is set for Virat Kohli, and he is a big match player. I want Kohli to not take too much risk in the first six overs. I think if Kohli bats till the 17th or 18th over then Maxwell Like, de Villiers, Dan Christian and KS Bharat can play around him.”

“Kohli will be a crucial side for RCB if they have to set a target of 150 or 160 while batting first as he is the only player who can rotate the strike consistently in the middle overs. RCB have a bowling attack to defend. Total around 155 to 160,” he said.

When asked where AB de Villiers should bat, Gambhir said the South African legend should come at No.

“He should bat at number five because Maxwell needs to bat at number four because he is in form and KS Bharat has done well at number three,” Gambhir said.
