Punjab Kings (PBKS)Leading batsman KL Rahul finished sixth Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 points table and failed to qualify for the playoffs once again. This season’s unsuccessful campaign led him to amass a questionable record that the franchise would quickly forget. PBKS (earlier Kings XI Punjab) went ahead Delhi Capitals‘ (previously Delhi Daredevils) record for failing to make the playoffs for six consecutive seasons. This year, PBKS extended that record to seven seasons in a row, as their six wins in 14 matches could land them only sixth in the league stage.
PBKS finished as runners-up in the 2014 IPL season but have not been able to make it to the last four stages since then. They also finished as semi-finalists in the inaugural season of IPL in 2008.
After 2008, the dry run for PBKS extended to five seasons before reaching the final in 2014. However, since then, the PBKS has repeatedly disappointed with poor campaigns.
Delhi Capitals performed similarly from 2013 to 2018, where they failed to finish in the top four. However, he made a comeback in the 2019 and 2020 seasons, finishing third and second respectively.
DC, PBKS and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are the three teams yet to win the competition. But that could change with both DC and RCB qualifying for the playoffs this year.
DC are at the top of the table with 10 wins while Virat Kohli-led RCB finished this season with 9 wins from 14 matches.
