Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Andre Russell has given Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore a warning ahead of Eliminator 1 of IPL 2021 as the West Indies star said he wants to hit the ball so hard that the opposition needs a Get a new ball.
Russell also revealed the secret Behind the power he generates to hit big sixes that often put opposition bowlers on the back foot during a game.
In a video posted by KKR on Instagram, Russell was in conversation with teammates Venkatesh Iyer and Shakib Al Hasan.
“I’d like to do 20 to 30 pushups every day to keep my body strength up, because hitting those sixes, 100m or more, I can do it a couple of times a year, but hitting those sixes consistently, It works consistently.” West Indies all-rounder said.
“At the point of contact, I spend most of the time trying to make sure everything goes to the ball. Some people, they see the ball in time. They keep their shape, and they want the ball to go against the ropes. Go up. I want to hit the ball so hard that they get a new ball.” she added.
Russell also said that his strategy of hitting sixes in the above manner puts too much pressure on the bowling side.
“I learned a lot from Chris Gayle. He said I’m scared of getting out on the boundary, so I hit the ball over the boundary, like far back, make sure it’s a six,” Russell said.
