Dubai: Srikar India and Glenn Maxwell played unbeaten knocks of 78 and 51 respectively as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) thrashed Delhi Capitals by seven wickets in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 encounter at the Dubai International Stadium on Friday.
Delhi Capitals topped the points table and will now take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Qualifier 1 on Sunday. On the other hand, RCB finished third and Virat Kohli’s team will take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Eliminator on Monday.
Chasing 165, RCB had the worst start as Devdutt Padikkal (0) was sent off to the pavilion by Enrique Nortje in the very first over. The Proteas pacer didn’t stop there as he got the big fish Virat Kohli (4) in his next over and RCB were reduced to 6/2.
AB de Villiers and Sreekar Bharat then came to the crease and both recovered the innings for RCB. The two batsmen put on 49 runs for the third wicket, but as the innings got back on track, Kohli’s team lost the wicket of de Villiers (26), who needed 110 runs from 63 balls to win.
In the 14th over, Glenn Maxwell was dismissed twice – once by Shreyas Iyer and once by Ravichandran Ashwin and as a result, RCB were in the hunt to chase down 165 runs.
In the end, Bharat and Maxwell kept their composure to guide RCB to victory. On the last ball, RCB needed five runs to win and Bharat hit a six off the ball.
Earlier, Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan scored 48 and 43 as Delhi Capitals posted a total of 164/5 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Apart from Dhawan and Shaw, Shimron Hetmyer also scored 29 runs. For RCB, Mohammad Siraj made a comeback with two wickets. Openers Dhawan and Shaw added 55 runs in the first six overs. Both the batsmen continued till the 10 over mark and as a result, Delhi were sitting well on 88/0.
However, Dhawan (43) was dismissed on the very first ball of the 11th over as he was sent back to the pavilion by Purple Cap holder Harshal Patel.
Soon after, Prithvi Shaw (48) and Rishabh Pant (10) were dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal and Daniel Christian for 108/3 in the 13th over of Delhi Capitals. In the end, Shimron Hetmyer played a quick knock of 29 runs and went past Delhi’s total of 160 runs.
