New Delhi: Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai fame actor Karan Mehra and his family have got anticipatory bail in a domestic violence case filed against him by his now estranged wife Nisha Rawal. Karan says that it is a matter of great relief that he and his family have got anticipatory bail. The actor also claimed that he had proof of his innocence that he would appear in court.

Karan Mehra told Hindustan Times, “After so many months of fighting against the false allegations leveled against us, getting anticipatory bail is a big relief for me and my family.”

Actress Nisha Rawal had filed a case against Karan Mehra at Goregaon police station on May 31. Nisha accused Karan of domestic violence and withdrawing more than Rs 1 crore from his bank account. A case has been registered against Karan and his family members – brother Kunal Mehra, mother Bela Mehra and father Ajay Mehra under sections 498-A, 377, 406, 323, 504 and 506 r/w section 34 of the Indian Penal Code .

“These sections mean cruelty in respect of dowry, sexual harassment, violence etc., filed by Nisha against me, my old parents and my younger brother. Though my parents have not even gone to Mumbai in the last two years,” said Karan.

Stating that he is innocent, Karan said, “It has been a tough time but thankfully the court has ruled in our favour. Getting anticipatory bail means that I, my aged parents and my brother will not be arrested in the false cases filed against us by Nisha. I have proof to prove my innocence which I will show in court.”

Earlier, Nisha Rawal had told Bombay Times that she does not want any alimony from Karan, but sole custody of her four-year-old son Kavish.

“I don’t want any alimony. What will he give me that I didn’t give him? We made everything together. I started earning at a very young age and I supported him even before I became a part of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai I’ve done a lot and everyone I’ve worked with will confirm that Karan was in charge of the commercials,” Nisha had said.
