Lakhimpur Kheri: Farmers allege the incident, said- PM Modi’s effigy will be burnt on Dussehra

NEW DELHI: Farmer leaders on Saturday demanded that Union Minister Ajay Mishra and his son be arrested in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, and said the incident was a “pre-planned conspiracy”.

Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) leader Yogendra Yadav, during a press conference here, alleged that Ajay Mishra should also be removed from the government as he started this conspiracy and is also protecting the culprits in the case.

He also said that SKM will burn effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in protest against the violence on October 15, which is Dussehra.

Eight people, including four farmers, died in this incident that took place on Sunday in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh.

The incident was part of a pre-planned conspiracy and the attackers tried to terrorize the farmers, farmers leader Darshan Pal said at a press conference of SKM, an umbrella body of agricultural unions leading the agitation against the three agricultural laws.

He also claimed that the government has taken a violent stand against the protesting farmers.

But “we will not take the path of violence”, Ugrahan insisted.

Four of the eight people killed in Sunday’s violence were farmers who were allegedly hit by a vehicle carrying BJP workers.

The angry farmers then allegedly made some people board the vehicles.

The other dead include two BJP workers and their driver.

The farmers claimed that Ashish Mishra was in one of the vehicles, a charge denied by him and his father, who say they can produce evidence to prove that he was at an event at the time.

Ugrahan said, we demand that Union Minister Ajay Mishra and his son Ashish be arrested.

The SKM also said that it would call a ‘Rail Roko’ to protest the Lakhimpur Kheri violence on October 18.
