Lakhimpur Kheri incident: Heavy traffic jam on DND Highway, Delhi Police issued new advisory

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Monday issued a traffic advisory in view of the ongoing protests over the Lakhimpur Kheri incident. In the advisory, Delhi Police has closed National Highways 24 and 9.

Police requested passengers coming from Sarai Kale Khan to take Vikas Marg route to reach Ghaziabad and divert their vehicle towards Delhi Noida Direct Highway for Noida.

An FIR has been registered against Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra’s son and several others in connection with the Lakhimpur violence in which eight people died.

Two FIRs have been registered, but the details of the sections under which the cases have been registered were not immediately known.

Additional Chief Secretary Home Avnish Kumar Awasthi said that an FIR has been registered against many people including Ashish Mishra, son of Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra. He said that the copy of the FIR is not yet available, the details of the sections under which the case has been registered are not known.

ADG Law and Order Prashant Kumar, who is camping in Lakhimpur, told PTI, “I am on the spot. Two FIRs have been registered from both the sides in the matter. Detailed information is not available right now as internet is not working here. “We will tell the media about it soon,” he said.

Eight people were killed in violence on Sunday during protests by farmers that claimed the lives of both farmers and BJP workers ahead of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya’s visit to Lakhimpur.

Among the dead were four people in a car, apparently part of a convoy of BJP workers who had come to welcome the UP minister. Officials said they were allegedly beaten to death. There were four other farmers.

Farmer leaders had claimed that the minister’s son Ashish Mishra was in one of the cars on which he rammed some protesters protesting the deputy CM’s visit.

Ajay Mishra, however, said that he and his son were not present at the spot as alleged by some farmer leaders and they have photo and video evidence to prove it.
