LUCKNOW: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday demanded the dismissal of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra and immediate arrest of the accused to ensure justice to the families of farmers in the Lakhimpur violence case.
SAD leader Harsimrat Kaur told reporters outside the Chaudhary Charan Singh airport here, “We demanded immediate sacking of the minister and arrest of the accused to bring justice to the families of the farmers killed in Lakhimpur.”
A party delegation reached here to visit Lakhimpur Kheri to meet the families of farmers killed in the violence on October 3.
“We are going to share the grief and help them in whatever way we can,” she said.
On BJP’s allegation that the opposition is going to Lakhimpur for a “photo opportunity”, the former Union minister said, “I have resigned from the Union Cabinet to raise the voice of farmers. They can also call it a photo opportunity.”
Kaur said that while demanding the arrest of the accused, measures should be taken to stop such violence.
On October 3, eight people, four of them farmers, were killed in Lakhimpur Kheri, who were allegedly crushed by vehicles driven by BJP workers who were traveling to welcome Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya at an event in the area. had gone.
The other four included two BJP workers, MoS Mishra’s driver and a journalist working for a private television channel.
