Naveen Bharat Editorial

Lucknow: After parting ways with the ruling BJP’s Ashish Mishra ‘Monu’ in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Monday observed a maun vrat (silent protest) to pressurize the central government to sack Ashish’s father. Can go Junior Home Minister Ajay Mishra Teni.

The police took this step after producing evidence about Ashish’s presence in the car convoy where the incident took place on October 3 at Lakhimpur Kheri.

UP BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh’s statement to the party cadre on Sunday that “we are not in the politics of crushing anyone under an SUV” is being seen in the light of this. However, since Ashish’s arrest on Saturday following his interrogation, in particular, there has been a murmur from other BJP quarters to let the law take its course.

The party is underlining the minister’s dismissal from the Modi cabinet to ensure a free and fair probe into the matter. UP minister Siddharth Nath Singh, however, said that the law will take its own course and will not be affected by any kind of pressure. He further said that if Congress leaders want to sit on a ‘vote of silence’ or protest, it is their democratic right.
