LUCKNOW: Politics has intensified over the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, in which several political leaders, including Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, were taken into preventive custody by the UP Police on Monday while visiting the troubled district. .
Priyanka, who reached Lucknow at 8:30 pm on Sunday and tried to go to Lakhimpur with Deepender Hooda in the early hours of Monday, was detained in Sitapur, while the SP chief was arrested from in front of his residence in Lucknow.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was stopped in Sitapur in the early hours of Monday and taken to PAC Guest House. Priyanka questioned why the son accused of killing a Union minister was not arrested.

Similarly, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav was arrested on Monday while sitting on a dharna outside his residence in Lucknow after he was not allowed to visit Lakhimpur Kheri on Monday.
