Minorities Commission seeks UP report on Lakhimpur Kheri in 3 days

The chairman of the National Commission for Minorities has taken suo motu cognizance of it. Lakhimpur Kheri incident in which eight people including four farmers died. Sardar Iqbal Singh Lalpura has written a letter to the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh seeking a report in the next three days.

When contacted, Lalpura said, “It would not be appropriate for me to comment unless I am informed from the right circles. I met Tejinder Singh Virk, who was injured and was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon. I have also met his family. It was a useful discussion.”

Virk is one of the agricultural leaders who took part in the protest against the Centre’s agricultural laws on Sunday.


The farmers had claimed that a car of Union minister Ajay Mishra Teni’s son Ashish’s convoy crushed the protesters in Tikoniya area. Several videos have surfaced since the incident. The minister had denied these allegations. There is mounting pressure from the opposition and civil rights groups for Mishra’s resignation.
