MP: absconding son of Congress MLA arrested in rape case

Indore: Police on Tuesday arrested Karan Morwal, son of a Congress MLA from Madhya Pradesh, who was on the run for over six months after a woman filed a rape case, an official said.

Karan Morwal is the son of Murli Morwal, MLA from Badnagar in Ujjain district.

The police had earlier announced a reward of Rs 25,000 on his arrest.

Jyoti Sharma, in-charge of women’s police station in Indore said that Karan Morwal (30) was arrested from near Maksi town of Shajapur district, about 80 km from Indore.

He said that necessary legal formalities are going on after his arrest.

According to officials, a case of rape was registered against Karan Morwal on April 2 this year at the Mahila Thana in Indore.

He said that the woman complainant had alleged that he raped her on the pretext of marriage.

On October 19, the police questioned the accused’s younger brother Shivam as they suspected that he knew about his brother’s whereabouts, officials said.

Eyewitnesses had earlier said that Congress MLA Murli Morwal had reached the Palasia police station adjacent to the Mahila police station on October 19 and held a closed-door meeting with some officials.

After he came out of the police station, media persons had asked him about his absconding son, but the MLA left saying that he did not want to speak to the media on the issue.
