National level shooter Namanveer Singh Brar was found dead at his home in Mohali on Monday (September 13), the police did not rule out suicide. Mohali Deputy Superintendent of Police Gursher Singh Sandhu said over phone that the 28-year-old trap shooter was shot.
According to the DSP, it could not be conclusively said whether he died of suicide or an accidental fire. “We cannot say conclusively at this stage whether it was suicide or it was an accidental fire. The body has been sent for post-mortem and the report is awaited. Once the report is out, it will help us to arrive at a conclusion.
The family of the shooter informed the police about the incident. Brar was found dead at his Sector 71 house in Mohali.
He won a bronze medal in the double-trap shooting event at the World University Games in South Korea. In March this year, he participated in the Minimum Qualifying Score (MQS) category at the ISSF World Cup in Delhi.
Brar, formerly a student of Panjab University, won a bronze medal along with Ankur Mittal and Asghar Hussain Khan in the double trap team event at the 2015 World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea.
In the same year, he won a bronze medal in All India University Shooting Championship And the following year, Brar was once again part of the bronze medal winning Indian team at the FISU World University Shooting Championships held in Poland.
