NIA raids 8 places in J&K, arrests 3 ISIS operatives

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday (October 10, 2021) conducted raids in Jammu and Kashmir and arrested three operatives of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). During searches at eight locations in Srinagar and Anantnag districts, Tauheed Latif, Suhail Ahmed and Afshan Parvez were arrested and several incriminating documents and digital devices like mobile phones, tablets, laptops, hard disks etc. were recovered and confiscated.

“NIA had received information that the banned terrorist organization ISIS has hatched a conspiracy to radicalize and recruit influential Muslim youth in India to wage violent jihad against the Indian state and an organized campaign on cyberspace to carry out its nefarious plan. Supplemented by on-ground terror financing activities,” the agency said in a statement.

The statement further said, “ISIS terrorists operating from various conflict zones with ISIS cadres in India have created a network assuming pseudo online identities, in which propaganda material related to ISIS is circulated to radicalize and recruit members to ISIS. is done.”

According to the NIA, the arrested accused were linked to foreign ISIS operatives based in Pakistan and Afghanistan and some other associates of the arrested accused based in Kashmir are involved in on-ground and online activities of ISIS, including content creation and translation of India-centric ISIS propaganda. . Significantly, the agency had taken over the investigation by registering a case in June this year. Earlier, he had arrested four accused in this case.
