Not vaccinated? No office since October 16, Delhi government employees told

According to the Delhi Disaster Management Authority’s (DDMA) order on Friday, Delhi government employees and teachers who have not received at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine will not be allowed to go to their workplaces from October 16.

The order states that all such employees of the Delhi government, including teachers and frontline employees, will be considered on leave until they are discharged.

The Delhi government has also directed private schools to follow the DDMA order.

The head of the concerned department will verify the vaccinated employees through Arogya Setu App or vaccination certificate.
Officials said around two lakh employees are working in various departments, agencies and local bodies of the Delhi government, including three municipal corporations.

The order, issued by Delhi Chief Secretary and DDMA Executive Committee chairman Vijay Dev, said the central government “may consider issuing similar directions in respect of its employees working in Delhi.”

The DDMA in its meeting on September 29 had decided to ensure 100% vaccination of all government employees, frontline workers, healthcare workers as well as teachers and other staff members in schools and colleges.

The order said that these people have constant interaction with the general public and weaker section of the society.

All Government employees working in Departments/Autonomous Bodies/PSUs/Local Bodies/Educational Institutions under the Government of NCT of Delhi, including frontline workers, healthcare workers as well as teachers and other staff working in schools and colleges. The vaccine should be administered (at least the first dose) by October 15, it said.

“Government employees/frontline workers/health workers/teachers and other employees working in schools and colleges, who have not received vaccination (at least the first dose) by October 15, are required to attend their offices/health institutions/educational institutions. will not be allowed with effect from October 16, unless they have received the first dose of the vaccine,” it said.

The Delhi government has directed all private schools to ensure that their teaching and non-teaching staff get the vaccine dose by October 15.

“The Directorate of Education has asked all private schools to ensure that all teachers and school staff, including transport workers, who have not received vaccination so far, are vaccinated by October 15,” a senior official said.

He said that teachers and school staff who have not got immunization done cannot be allowed to attend the school and their absence can be treated as on leave from October 16.
