The Center today told the Supreme Court that the criteria for determining the Economically Weaker Sections for reservation purposes will be reconsidered. The current income limit for the economically weaker section is Rs 8 lakh per annum and the Center has sought four weeks’ time to reconsider the issue. Till then, there will be no counseling for NEET All India Quota.
The top court was hearing a plea challenging 27 per cent reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC) and 10 per cent reservation for EWS category for admission to postgraduate medical seats through NEET.
The court has given one month to the Center and the next hearing of the matter will be held on January 6.
