Chief Justice N V Ramana today said the collegium has recommended a record 68 names at once for promotion as judges to a dozen high courts, underlining that he expects the government to approve the names for appointment. Chief Justice Ramana said at an event organized by the Bar Council of India, “The Union Law Minister is here. I am hopeful that the government will clear the names expeditiously, like it had cleared nine names in the Supreme Court.”
The 12 High Courts for which recommendations have been made are: Allahabad, Rajasthan, Calcutta, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Madras, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Punjab and Haryana, Kerala, Chhattisgarh and Assam.
Of the accepted names for 12 High Courts, 44 are from the Bar and 24 from the Judicial Service. In total, there are 10 women who have been recommended for height.
