NEW DELHI: Seventy-nine per cent of the country’s adult population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 25 per cent have taken both the doses, the government said on Thursday.
It also said that increasing population density increases the chances of spread of COVID-19 and it would be prudent to avoid non-essential travel and observe the festivities in less time.
The government said that a total of 67.4 lakh doses (approximately 0.88 pcs) have been administered at immunization centers not tagged as rural/urban.
It said that 59.66 per cent of the total COVID-19 cases last week were reported from Kerala and the state has over 1 lakh active cases.
The government also emphasized that the number of COVID-19 tests has not come down and 15 to 16 lakh tests are being conducted every day in the country.
Eighteen districts are reporting weekly Covid positivity rates between five to ten per cent and 30 districts are reporting weekly positivity rates above 10 per cent, it said.
On Zydus Cadila’s COVID-19 vaccine, the government said ZyCoV-D is a three-dose needle-free vaccine and its price would be different from the jabs being used at present.
Its pricing is in talks with the manufacturer.
