Petrol pump attendant’s daughter wins seat in IIT Kanpur in Kerala, netizens praise

New Delhi: An inspiring story recently surfaced after Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Chairman Shrikant Madhav Vaidya shared a picture of his employee with his daughter, who secured a seat at IIT Kanpur for higher studies.

Arya, who hails from Kerala, is the daughter of IOC customer attendant S Rajagopalan. Quoting Mathrubhumi, the Indian Express reported that Rajagopalan has been working at the IOC fueling station at Payyanur in Kannur district for the past twenty years, while his mother KK Shobhana works at Bajaj Motors.

The report said that Arya will pursue M.Tech in petrochemical engineering from IIT Kanpur.

Sharing the news, Vaidya tweeted, “I share an inspiring story of Arya, daughter of Mr. Rajagopalan, Customer Attendant of IndianOil. Arya has made us proud by getting into IIT Kanpur. Good luck and way to go Arya. .

The post has garnered 14,000 likes and 1,574 retweets.

Soon, the tweet went viral and netizens showered and congratulated Arya on her entry. Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri also took the opportunity to praise Arya’s hard work.

Puri wrote, “Arya Rajagopal has made his father Shri Rajagopal ji and indeed all of us involved in the country’s energy sector extremely proud.”
