New Delhi: With Kerala consistently reporting well over half the country’s daily COVID-19 cases, the BJP on Wednesday accused the Left government in the state of playing down the health crisis and being busy “covering it up” through motivated propaganda. charged up.
Kerala on Wednesday reported 31,445 fresh COVID-19 cases and 215 deaths, taking the total number of infections to 38,83,429 and fatalities to 19,972.
The last time the state crossed the 30,000-mark was on May 20 when 30,491 cases were seen. Together 24,296 new infections on Tuesday, it had reported about 65 per cent of the cases across the country.
Union Minister and BJP leader V Muraleedharan attacked Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, tweeting, “Dangerous COVID-19 situation in Kerala, @vijayanpinarayi has clearly failed to protect people’s lives.
“Kerala alone recorded 24,296 cases & 173 deaths yesterday. @VijayanPinarayi’s illogical strategy & motivated media propaganda cost the country dearly.”
BJP spokesperson Tom Vadakkan said Kerala is in the grip of COVID-19, and the state government is engaged in covering it up.
“Especially the newsreader turned health minister is busy reading wrong scripts and spreading misinformation that everything is useless in Kerala,” he said.
He claimed that the reality is that the disease is under control in almost all parts of the country, but little effort is being made to contain it in the state.
He alleged that the state government had launched a “massive cover-up” by spreading propaganda, adding that the people of Kerala were suffering.
