poll strategist Prashant Kishor, who was said to be in talks with the Congress, on Friday expressed surprise while taking a dig at the party leadership, indicating that his entry into the oldest party has hit new hurdles.
Kishor said that those who are expecting revival of Congress on the basis of this Lakhimpur Kheri’s intervention is setting itself up for a major disappointment.
Kishor was seen as one of the strategists in the Trinamool Congress’s victory in the recent West Bengal Assembly elections, and later close to joining the Congress, his remarks triggered a war of words between the two parties.
“People seeking a quick, smooth revival of the GOP-led opposition based on the #LakhimpurKheeri incident are setting themselves up for a major disappointment. Unfortunately, there is no quick solution to the deep-rooted and structural weakness of the GOP,” tweeted Kishor.
Seen as a counter, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel tweeted later in the afternoon, “Those who can’t even win their own seat, may seek a “national” alternative based on Congress poaching. Looking for. Big disappointment. Unfortunately, becoming a national alternative requires deep-rooted and concerted efforts and there is no quick solution.”
Late in the evening, a tweet from TMC’s official Twitter handle said, “Prosperous words coming from the first time CM. Punching above your weight doesn’t bring you respect, sir @bhupeshbaghel. What a lousy attempt to please the high command! By the way, is @INCIndia going to try to erase the historic defeat in Amethi with another Twitter trend?”
Kishor’s remarks, which are seen as aimed at the Gandhi siblings, come at a time when Rahul Gandhi’s aggressive political stance and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s death at Lakhimpur Kheri had enthused a section of Congress leaders who believe that the Gandhi family is finally getting together. These leaders believe that Congress needs to show aggression, especially since parties like TMC are trying to project their national ambitions.
The aggression of the Gandhi siblings was also seen in the context of recent criticisms of the leadership by some ‘G23’ leaders. After the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, Rahul and Priyanka led from the front, rallying party leaders, including chief ministers, and working on a plan to keep the issue politically alive, sources said.
Kishor was in talks with the Gandhi family for a formal entry into the Congress, and the leaders are believed to have agreed as well. Sources close to Rahul had said that he had advised Kishor to join the party instead of expecting him to play a role in the party’s election and campaign management.
In fact, it is learned that the Congress leadership had discussed the “action plan” proposed by Kishor to revive and rejuvenate the party and prepare it for war for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In July, Naveen Bharat had reported that Congress Working Committee members are meeting in groups to discuss the “reform and revival” agenda for the party.
Party sources had then said that Kishor had outlined the discussion during a meeting with the Gandhi family in July – he had met Rahul and Priyanka on July 13, and had at least one meeting with the Congress president. . Sonia Gandhi East.
Against this backdrop, Kishor’s tweet on Friday surprised many in the party.
A section of Congress leaders said that his entry has been adversely affected given his continued association with the TMC, which has been continuously criticizing the Congress for carving out a place in national politics.
A senior Congress leader said, “At some level, his remarks show dismay and perhaps even desperation.” His emphasis on “deep-rooted and structural weakness” is interesting, as he was asked to advise the Gandhi family on how to address these same issues. Perhaps things are not progressing the way they had envisioned.
Another leader who has always criticized Kishor claimed that he is batting for TMC.
A leader considered close to Rahul said every word of Kishor “should not be analyzed and dissected”.
“He works at different levels. Our leaders are probably nave when they associate with him. The Gandhi family has left no stone unturned to make the Lakhimpur incident a powerful weapon against them. BJP. And he’s trying to defuse it. So who is he batting for,” the leader said.
