Rape victim dies by suicide over police inaction in Uttar Pradesh


Azamgarh: An alleged rape victim committed suicide here on Saturday in protest against the inaction of the police, following which a police station was suspended.

A woman resident of a village under Mehnajpur police station area was allegedly sexually abused recently.

Superintendent of Police Sudhir Kumar Singh said that her husband claimed that he had identified Anil of the same village as an accused, but the police failed to take any action in the matter.

“SHO Chunna Singh has been suspended for negligence,” he said.

The victim’s family alleges that they appealed to the police for justice several times, but to no avail.

On Saturday, the woman reached the police station and later consumed poison.

The SP said that he was taken to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.

He said that the body has been sent for post-mortem.

Police said that a case has been registered against the accused.
