Robbers allegedly leave for Mumbai in gang-raped women’s train

Eight people have been charged with gang-raping a woman on a train going from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh to Mumbai in Maharashtra. The police gave this information today. He said that four accused have been arrested while search is on for the rest.

On Friday night, eight men carrying weapons boarded the sleeper coach of the Lucknow-Mumbai Pushpak Express in Maharashtra’s Igatpuri town and started robbing passengers, officials said.

Police said they allegedly raped a female passenger and injured around five-six people, who tried to confront them, with sharp weapons.

When the train stopped at Kasara station in Mumbai, the passengers started making noise. The Government Railway Police immediately reached the spot and was successful in nabbing the two accused.

Later, two more suspects were arrested and search is on for the other four accused, he said.

The police have also recovered stolen goods worth Rs 34 thousand from the arrested people.

The Government Railway Police has registered a case of rape and robbery. Further investigation is on, he said.
