SC directs Delhi government to come up with a plan to help underprivileged children from online classes

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Delhi government to come up with a plan to help children belonging to the Economically Backward Classes (EWS) category and disadvantaged groups for their online classes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The court said that the Center and Delhi should work together to ensure that education is not denied due to paucity of resources.

The Supreme Court observed that it is necessary for the Delhi government to come up with a plan to uphold the objective of the Right to Education (RTE) Act and allow the Center to coordinate with the state government and fund the resources concurrently for the purposes. It is also necessary to share responsibilities. .

The apex court said that the digital divide had dire consequences as schools were adapted to the digital medium during the pandemic and children belonging to EWS children were denied the right to education as they could not afford computers and access to online classes. could not access the internet.
