Seven-member Congress delegation demands immediate meeting with President on Lakhimpur Kheri ‘genocide’

New Delhi: The Congress party has written to President Ram Nath Kovind demanding an immediate meeting on the Lakhimpur Kheri violence to question the investigation conducted after the incident.

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal urged the President to allow a delegation of seven party members led by Rahul Gandhi to “submit a detailed memorandum of facts”.

Calling it a “shocking incident of massacre of farmers’ day”, Venugopal said that it includes “shook the conscience of the whole country

“What is even more tragic is the openness given by Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Theni and the trampling of farmers under a Thar jeep owned by the minister and his family,” he wrote.

“The farmers, who were eyewitnesses, have openly said that they were crushed by a vehicle driven by the son of the Union Minister of State for Home. Despite all-out protests and Supreme Court intervention, no decisive action has been taken neither against the culprits nor against the minister,” he said.

Apart from Rahul Gandhi, the proposed seven-member delegation includes AK Antony, Mallikarjun Kharge, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Priyanka Gandhi, KC Venugopal and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

The letter was dated October 9, while the main accused ashish mishra arrested Late that day after a long session of questioning by the police.
