Shock to Gupkar, coalition leader changed allegiance to his party

SRINAGAR: In yet another setback to the six-party Gupkar alliance over the restoration of Article 370, one of its constituents, Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement (JKPM) president Javed Mustafa Mir joined his party on Monday. Javed has been a three-time MLA from Chadoora constituency of Budgam district. Javed took over as JKPM president last year after its founding president Shah Faesal, a former IAS officer, quit politics after being released from detention. After assuming office, Javed Gupkar was representing the party in the coalition, which was formed to fight for the restoration of Articles 370 and 35A.

He had participated in all the meetings of the coalition and his party also contested the District Development Council elections for the first time jointly with the coalition parties. The Gupkar alliance, which was initially a seven-party alliance, suffered a setback in January this year. One of its parties, the Sajjad Gani Lone-led People’s Conference (PC), quit the coalition after accusing the National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of fielding proxy candidates during the DDC elections. Have both your party and PC. The BJP is being accused of being a B-team by the NC, PDP and other parties. Javed, who had left the PDP to join the JKPM, was elected to the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly thrice on a PDP ticket.

On leaving both the parties, Javed said: “At times, you feel like you turn to good organisations. I am on the verge of deciding on my political decisions. My only effort is that people should get benefit from our efforts. He further said, “As long as I was with the Gupkar Alliance, I did my work there. When I was there, the issue of Article 370 and 35A was in the court and when I joined my party, it was also in the court.” .
