Sidhu’s fast started after dinner, ended with breakfast: Sukhbir Badal

Chandigarh: SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday termed Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu’s fast at Lakhimpur Kheri as a “drama”, saying his hunger strike began after dinner and ended before breakfast.

Sidhu ended his fast on Saturday after Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra came for questioning.

The Punjab Congress chief, who met the family of 28-year-old journalist Raman Kashyap, one of the eight killed in the violence, was on a fast and could be seen lying on a cot at the journalist’s house in Lakhimpur Kheri.

Reacting to Sidhu’s hunger strike, Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal said that he would like to request Sidhu that he should stop doing “drama”.

“@serryontopp is just an attention seeker. His hunger strike to arrest Ashish Mishra, was a comedy show that started after dinner and ended before breakfast. He appeared before the police and was arrested. Don’t know the difference between: SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal,” said a tweet from the Shiromani Akali Dal’s Twitter account.

Ashish Mishra’s name was registered in the FIR following allegations that he was one of the vehicles that rammed four farmers protesting the visit of UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya last Sunday.

In a tweet on Saturday, Sidhu said, “Broken my fast with Raman Kashyap’s family… to join the investigation after Ashish Mishra’s surrender. Almighty gave me the strength to fight for a just cause. The path will always win.!!”

Sidhu had announced that he would go on a hunger strike if the Union minister’s son was not arrested or joined the investigation by Friday.
