Six fully vaccinated persons infected with Delta plus AY.4.2 type of coronavirus in Madhya Pradesh

Indore: Six fully vaccinated persons were found infected with the new coronavirus variant Delta Plus AY.4.2 in Indore district of Madhya Pradesh.

“As per the report received from Delhi-based National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), six persons were found infected with the AY.4.2 variant of coronavirus. Their samples were sent for genome sequencing along with other infected persons in September,” Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) BS Satya gave this information on Monday.

The AY.4.2 version has been found for the first time in the past 19-month history of the pandemic, he said.

Saitya said that all the six persons who were found infected with AY.4.2 variant were fully vaccinated. He said that he has recovered after the treatment.

The CMHO said that over 50 people who came in contact with these six persons in the last few days were found healthy after testing.

Meanwhile, Dr. Anita Mutha, Head of the Department of Microbiology, Government Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College, Indore, said that AY.4.2 is a novel form of coronavirus and not much information is available about its severity.

A total of 1,53,202 Covid cases were found so far in Indore district. Of these, 1,391 have succumbed to coronavirus infection.

Indore district in Madhya Pradesh was the worst affected when the covid pandemic created a ruckus. However, due to the rapid pace of vaccination, the number of new late-stage infections has dropped to one or two per day.
