Former England captain Michael Vaughan praised India’s captain Ajinkya Rahane’s “incredible performance” against Australia on the second day of the ongoing Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday. Rahane scored his 12th century in Test cricket and is currently unbeaten on 104 runs. Vaughn wrote, “His score of 100 at Lord’s was special but his team as captain in Melbourne was 1-0 down and far above the top … @ ajinkyarahane88 !!! #AUSvIND, now What an incredible performance till date “Twitter.

At stumps on the second day, the spectator score was 277/5 and the team took an 82-run lead over Australia. The hosts would have taken India’s top-order wickets, but in the final session Rahane and Jadeja showed India determined to take control of the match. Rahane and Jadeja shared an unbeaten 104-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

Former all-rounder of India Suresh Raina also saluted Rahane and Jadeja for their contributions. “Well done @ ajinkyarahane88 and @imjadeja! You’ve shown what INDIA is. Are we sure we will fight and win the Melbourne Test. # # Come on India,” his tweet read.

Rahane and Jadeja are currently unbeaten on 104 and 40 runs for India in the first innings and will resume proceedings for the spectators on the third day of the second Test.

This is Rahane’s eighth Test overseas and this is his first century as the captain of Team India. With this knock, Rahane also became the second Indian batsman to score a century in his first match as captain in Australia.

Virat Kohli was the first to achieve the feat in 2014 when he scored a century in Adelaide. Kohli went back home after the first Test against Australia after being granted paternity leave by the BCCI.

On the first day of the second Test, India piled on Australia to a score of 195 as Jasprit Bumrah took four wickets while Ravichandran Ashwin took three wickets.
