Former Delhi Capitals Shreyas Iyer has been in sensational form since his return from a shoulder injury. Iyer, who led the Capitals to the final of the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL), was set to lead the side this season as well, but suffered a shoulder injury in the limited-overs series against England earlier this year. The Mumbai batsman averages 42 with the bat in 22 ODIs and 28.94 in T20 games for India, with an impressive strike-rate of 133.81 with three fifties. In just four matches in IPL 2021, Iyer has already managed to score 124 runs with a top score of 47 not out. He is one of the three standby players announced by the Indian selectors for the T20 World Cup 2021, which begins later this month in the UAE and Oman.
As per ICC rules, India can still make changes in their final squad till October 10 and Iyer can replace Suryakumar Yadav, who has been struggling with form since the IPL shifted to the UAE. Yadav’s 26-ball 33 against Delhi Capitals was his best innings after all-single-digit scores earlier in the second leg of IPL 2021. Iyer also scored an unbeaten 33 but won in tough batting conditions in Sharjah to propel his team to victory. .

During this, Iyer was happy to bat till the end of the innings and guide your side against the defending champion MI.
“I found it really wonderful to bat and take my team to the end. It was a low scoring game so I decided to stay till the end even though I was transferred down the order. I supported myself and supported my instincts. Whatever position I would be in, I knew I would win the game. When you think positive, everything becomes like you. He (Ashwin) came and he was really positive,” Shreyas told host broadcaster Star Sports after the match against Mumbai ended.
He said, ‘His intention was to take as many singles and rotate the strike and it went on till the last two overs. After that, he started watching the ball really well and decided that he would take on the bowlers. We both wanted to bat till the last ball, so it was like ‘I’ll take that down, you just try to stay till the end and make sure you win matches for the team’. The change has happened in the last two years and we have created that environment from 2019 onwards.”
