Bengal BJP leader Rakesh Singh, who has been named by the party’s youth-wing leader Pamela Goswami in the drugs case, has been arrested in the state’s Burdwan district. He was reportedly fleeing the state by road. Kolkata Police have also detained two of their sons for not allowing them to enter their residence today for want of search warrants – which later arrived.
Ms. Goswami, who was arrested last week for possessing around 100 grams of cocaine, has accused Mr. Singh – a close aide of senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya – of implicating him in the drugs case. “They have been trying to frame me for a long time. Rakesh Singh has done that. I have reliable information. I have evidence,” she told reporters in Bengali outside a local court.
Mr. Singh was asked to appear at Kolkata Police Headquarters today for questioning in connection with the case. However, he refused, saying that he was traveling to Delhi and would appear before the police on February 26, when he would return to the city.
Earlier today, heavy police force reached outside Mr. Singh’s house. However, his children refused to let the police in.
The high-intensity drama was played on a day when a CBI team went to the residence of Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, to question his wife Rujira for alleged scams over certain bank transactions.
Mr Singh’s family insisted that the police action was to avenge the move against the wife of the Diamond Harbor MP.
“My son Saheb Singh told NB today,” My father is being victimized. I don’t know anything about Pamela Goswami and the drugs case. My father is not involved in this. .
